Becoming an entrepreneur is one of the bravest decisions that you can make.

There is a mix of excitement, trepidation, and uncertainty when you make the decision to go solo.  The idea of working alone, and working for yourself, can seem very enticing to some.

The idea of creating something to bring to the world may excite others.  Having freedom and not having to answer to anyone may be appealing to others.

When you start out as an entrepreneur you must learn so many things: new programs, marketing, social media, and list building (for you online entrepreneurs).  While all these things are so very important in building and sustaining a business, the one thing that you need when you decide to become an entrepreneur is confidence.

Years ago, this would not have been my 1st response to the question what is one thing that an entrepreneur needs.

But I have learned over the years that having confidence is key when you are building a brand from scratch.  There will be so many people in your life who will not understand your business or your vision. They will try to talk you out of what you want to accomplish, only because they do not have the insight to know where you are going and what you are trying to do.

I remember last year when I went to a networking event for small businesses and new entrepreneurs.  A man at the event asked me what my business was. I told him that my business focused on mental health and wellness.  He went on to tell me that I should just focus on wellness because that was such a hot topic. After he said that, I thought to myself, “wow!  How dare he!”.

I admit, I was a little offended that this person who did not know me gave his 2 cents on what type of business I should run. Back then, I was not as confident as I am now. I would feel a little crushed or offended when people did not understand my business or see my vision.

The moral of the story is this: you need to be confident when you embark on your entrepreneurial journey.

You need to be confident in your vision and your business. There will be many people who do not understand what you were called to do.

This is okay.

Stand by your mission and core value.

The right opportunities and customers will find you.
