I would like to have a real conversation with you – I mean, you are one of my Business Besties after all.
For over 13 years, I worked at home alone, and it was so lonely I didn’t trust or see the value in having outside relationships with other women.
Honestly – I had this idea that everyone wanted to steal my ideas…because there were lots of companies out there doing that. But not everyone.
My designer, Renee (Nay Nay) had been a part of my business for 6 or so years by then…and I still didn’t have the trust that she wouldn’t leave with all of my insider knowledge and strategies, too. We had one person attempt this🤷🏽♀️.
Still…this way of thinking was a losing battle…
At some point, I realized that she wasn’t out to get me. She didn’t want to steal my ideas – and she valued, loved and respected me. That was a major turning point for me.
Mindset shift. The goal wasn’t to work alone. It was to align with like minded people who believe in your vision – and who’s vision you also believe in.
I’d always been a supporter of Nay Nay, and she knew that. Allowing a reciprocal flow of ideas, creativity, support, and appreciation to flow between us.
I’m sharing this story with you, because I know the value of aligning with the right partnerships.
Without her, I wouldn’t have gotten the projects for Diane Von Furstenberg or Project Runway completed in time.
I mean, they would give us 2 weeks at most to do some pretty huge projects!
These were major deals that brought in a LOT of money.
Beyond that, these opportunities introduced my brand to even more ICONIC names that gave me more credibility – solidifying my space in the industry as other copycats came out after me, literally making my exact designs – not even trying to hide it.
Now, get this: I was most afraid of being bootlegged and under-cut. Having Renee on my team, actually helped me remove this fear…did you catch that?
The very reason I was afraid of trusting and collaborating ended up being the thing that solidified me in the industry with big names + brands. Without her help, I wouldn’t have been able to do those projects🤯.
Our working relationship gave me opportunity to grow, which gave me the opportunity to support and help her grow.
And I’ve since repeated this with some of the babes inside of our Socialite Society to continue that collaborative, growth effort. A Win Win for us all.
The no new friends mentality has to end.
In fact, one of my new team members for PGC and I just spoke about this on this episode of Dropping Gems, Season 2 of our Podcast.
Check it out here.
And if you’re wanting a truly collaborative community of people just like you, you’ll want to join us inside of The Socialite Society.
Its community over competition at its best.
Our girls meet up in different cities, talk to one another daily – best friends #IRL, share content + form engagement groups, join one another’ podcasts…and create business relationships together.
And some of them have even become my trusted + valuable business partners♥️.
Oh, and over 10 years we’re still Business Besties…Nay Nay’s there, too 💁🏽♀️💁🏻♀️
See you on the inside,
